In 2018, the musical is ‘We Will Rock You’. The show will take place on the 23rd, 24th and 25th of August. Tickets are on sale now: https://www.trybooking.com/XAZO

The MUSICAL is a grand annual tradition.   Such shows provide a wonderful opportunity for staff, students, parents and members of the local community to work together, either onstage, backstage, in the orchestra or as part of the production team.

Originally the Westernport Light Opera Company was based in the town and produced musicals for many years with the involvement of many members of the school community. In 1979 The Kooweerup High School Theatre Group was established and started a tradition of annual musical productions.

Being part of the cast of a KWRSC musical, once you have passed the audition stage, requires a great commitment of time and teamwork. Students rehearse outside of school hours, with principals attending practices weekdays afterschool and everyone attending practices on Sundays, for approximately three months.

Students who are part of the orchestra rehearse on Sunday mornings for 6 weeks prior to the show.

Other students have the opportunity to work backstage in hair and makeup, lighting, sound, and staging – and attend practices over the last two weeks.

For everyone involved it is a wonderful experience which culminates with a number of shows at the end of August and the beginning of September.

Schools on Stage competition

Kooweerup Secondary College won overall first prize in 2012 and 2013 and Best Song in 2014.

The competition is held each year in September at Hillcrest College. Each school performs two of the musical numbers from their show which is scored by a panel of judges. The night is hosted by star of TV and stage Tim Campbell, with government and private schools presenting a huge variety of songs and dances from many wonderful shows..
