Facilities

F.C. Hooper Hall

The College hall contains a set of stage equipment not normally found in a school.  There is a fly tower above the stage which allows sets to be raised and lowered quickly and efficiently.  This makes the hall suitable for productions requiring many scene changes.  A bio box at the rear of the hall houses all controls for lighting and sound.  There are also dressing rooms upstairs.

The floor of the hall is large enough to include a basketball court and is used by Physical Education classes, sports teams and sports clubs.  It is ideally suited to badminton, volleyball and indoor cricket.

A large kitchen amply suits the catering needs of the numerous functions held in the hall. It contains an oven, two fridges, a boiling water unit as well as crockery and cutlery.

The hall is indeed a facility of which the College is justly proud.

Gymnasium

The gymnasium is used extensively by Physical Education classes.  It can be set up to house the normal gymnastic apparatus such as the beam and the horse, as well as a full sized trampoline and a number of table tennis tables.

Playing Fields

The school has an oval, a hockey field, tennis and netball courts, athletics filed events areas, and outdoor basketball and vollsyball courts.  Various areas in the yard are marked out for the popular game of bat-tennis.

This complex offers excellent facilities for students including a 3D room with a kiln, pottery wheels, a 2D room for drawing, painting and printmaking and a room for Visual Communication with appropriate computer facilities.

The Claudia Barker Performing Arts Centre

This facility was opened in April 2002 to provide the best possible facilities for the College band and for performing arts classes. It includes computer laboratories, rehearsal spaces, recording equipment  and materials to ensure the best possible acoustics.

Computer Rooms

The College currently has four computer laboratories with multimedia workstations in each as well as a general purpose room with 12 work stations. Six computer pods have been established throughout the College to maximise access for staff and students. The library has 12 student workstations. The workstations are all connected to the College’s curriculum network, providing storage of student files from any terminal. Internet access is available from any workstation. Computer aided design and graphics software are installed in the Technology Room.

Technology Rooms

The College has a Technology Studies faculty which currently uses specialist rooms designed for instruction in the use of timber, plastics and composite materials and mechanical and electronic systems. This includes a room for woodwork and electronics as well as a room for textiles and glass both built in 2003.

The Curriculum Resource Centre

In 2003 a new multimedia, state of the art Curriculum Resource Centre with all the latest facilities was opened.

The Resource Centre provides an extensive collection of resources to meet the information and leisure needs of all students in the College.  Students are actively encouraged and taught to become skilled, independent researchers.

A fully automated library circulation system provides efficient access to the resources of the library.  There are purpose built computer benches for 12 computers and provision for word processing and internet access.

A theatrette within the Resource Centre complex provides large screen access for video, DVD and laptop computer projection as well as video editing facilities.

Canteen

The manager, Mrs Heather McMillan, who is assisted by two part-time helpers and a roster of parents, runs the canteen.  The canteen prepares and serves breakfast and a range of lunches, as well as other foods and drinks.  The Canteen Roster is a good means of becoming involved in the school and meeting many other parents.  New faces are always welcome.
